(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) September 27, 2011 - In its quest to raise awareness around homelessness and to collect and distribute 50,000 pairs of jeans and or jackets to the homeless, action sports and lifestyle brand Volcom has declared October 7th as International Give Jeans a Chance Day.   In its 3rd year running, the jeans collection drive has grown and continues to gain popularity with the company’s partnering retailers, consumers and international affiliates. In fact, the campaign gained so much momentum last year, that the team at Volcom has decided to open up the call to action to it’s friends and fans on Facebook, Twitter, and elsewhere to start Give Jeans a Chance drives on their own; a sort of call to DIY-ers in hopes they can hit their ambitious goal. They’re expecting a call for a day of international recognition to help.   “We set a big goal for ourselves this year,” says Ryan Immegart, VP of Marketing at Volcom. “We’re calling on all our friends and family to help us reach our 50,000 unit goal and our hope is that a day dedicated to clothing someone in need catches on and becomes a true call to action.”   While Volcom’s Give Jeans a Chance drive officially kicked off on September 1st, 2011, October 7th will be the day that 1.) Officially recognizes the drive and highlights the approximate midway point, 2.) Will serve as a rally cry for all involved, and finally 3.) Should motivate those that may not have donated and/or started a drive yet to do so.   For now, those that want to donate jeans and/or jackets to the drive have a few options. They can head into a participating Volcom retail partner and simply drop off jeans or jackets in wearable condition (new or used) in the designated bin. Additionally, individuals excited to start their own collection campaign at their school or in their community may do so by going to volcom.com/givejeansachance to download the necessary resources. In addition to the great sense of Giving Back that comes along with participating, both options offer a chance to win great prizes.   The campaign is already running in more than 300 stores worldwide, and is already seeing multiple schools and community campaigns pop up. In addition to a multitude of drives and events planned for International Give Jeans a Chance Day, Volcom has scheduled the finals of their annual “Skate Night Film Battles” to take place at the Volcom Skatepark with an estimated 300-500 people expected to attend, each of whom is encouraged to bring a donation to get in for free.   “On October 7th, if you haven’t already looked up a participating retailer and donated jeans and/or jackets,” says Derek Sabori, Volcom’s Director of Sustainability, “or haven’t started your own campaign, then it’s time to do so because it’s International Give Jeans a Chance Day and that means it’s time to do some donating!”   Around the globe, jeans donated will go to local homeless shelters, close to where they were collected. The drive lasts through October 31st, 2011 and you can learn more at Volcom.com/GiveJeansAChance.   VOLC17091
