Grantville, PA, June 30, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD) has opportunities for individuals and families to learn the art of dog training with a purpose. By welcoming an eight-week-old Labrador Retriever puppy into their home for sixteen months, puppy raisers will be laying the foundation for a future service dog—a service dog that will support a child or adult to be more independent in their daily life. Service dogs provide support to veterans returning from war and individuals who may have quadriplegia, paraplegia, have balance disorder, hearing loss, mental illness, autism, or seizure disorder.

Over the next few months, SSD will have several litters of puppies that will be seeking their very own personal puppy raiser. Our puppy raisers love their work. They are required to snuggle often, provide lots of exercise, be diligent with housebreaking, play special games daily, provide lots of car rides, and take their puppy to work, the grocery store, and other public places. Puppy raisers also get together with other SSD volunteers to enjoy social outings. Dog food and treats are provided for the puppy by their puppy raiser families. Puppy raisers may be single individuals, married couples, families with children, and people who may or may not already have their own pets.

Service dog puppies in training and puppy raisers attend training two to three times per month, all located in the Greater Harrisburg area, as well as participate in group organized social outings throughout the Harrisburg, Hershey, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania areas. Susquehanna Service Dogs provides 24/7 professional support for any questions or concerns.

Susquehanna Service Dogs is a program of Keystone Human Services, a locally based nonprofit organization. SSD is accredited by Assistance Dogs International and is considered one of the finest programs in the world. The training facilities for SSD are located in Grantville, Pennsylvania.

Those interested are urged to call Rebecca Lamb, puppy coordinator, today. For more information, call 717-599-5920 or fill out the online puppy raiser form.
