Pearson plc Launches the Pearson Community Awards 2012

(3BL Media) May 30, 2012 - Pearson plc has launched this year's Pearson Community Awards (PCAs), our annual celebration of the Pearson people who regularly give their time to giving back. Each year, hundreds of people around the company make use of their Pearson-allocated charity days and donate their spare time to fundraise for good causes, organise soup kitchens, mentor young people, volunteer abroad and much more - the PCAs are Pearson plc's way of recognising the important role our volunteers play in their communities, at home and further afield. Last year's awards saw each of the seven PCA recipients receive $500 (or local equivalent) in recognition of their dedication and a $2000 contribution to their chosen charity from Pearson plc. Two additional finalists were also cited for special commendation.

In 2012, Pearson plc piloted a joint volunteering project with the Pearson Foundation - our preferred charity partner - to give Pearson people an opportunity to volunteer on a two-week in-country project. The Pearson Global Fellowship sent 12 of our staff, selected from our global businesses, to South Africa to work with teachers and young children in the townships of Cape Town, led by Projects Abroad. Watch a brief overview of their experience on YouTube here.

We're looking forward to reviewing this year's PCA applications this summer - in the meantime, learn about the awards in this video, featuring 2011's PCA winners. We'll announce 2012's PCA recipients in the autumn.
