December 11, 2012 /3BL Media/ - Fours Five Productions and ColorBURN Productions, in association with KUSM-TV/MontanaPBS, are producing a new documentary film, Finding Traction, featuring world-renowned endurance athlete Nikki Kimball.

In an age where obesity is the #1 killer in America, Finding Traction presents Kimball’s inspirational quest to become the fastest person in history to run Vermont's 273-mile Long Trail.  What drives Kimball to attempt such an incredible feat?  Finding Traction follows Kimball's journey from its beginning – training and racing in the Rocky mountains near her home in Montana – to her actual record attempt through Vermont's beautiful and brutal Green Mountains.

Throughout the film, Kimball's crew and support team will provide a behind-the-scenes look into her Long Trail endurance challenge, and interviews with the world's leading evolutionary biologists, including Bernd Heinrich, author of Why We Run, shed light on the science and psychology behind Kimball's incredible undertaking.  For Kimball, this well-publicized run on America's oldest hiking trail is more than a chance to inspire people to be active and spend time outdoors, it's her way of encouraging women and girls to take an equal place for themselves in professional sports.  In addition to providing an inside look into the journey of an elite athlete, Finding Traction will give viewers a new perspective on the endurance of the human body and spirit, and informing us all us, regardless of our sex, of our true potential and inspiring us to reach it.

Finding Traction is being produced an Emmy Award-winning production team composed of filmmakers from Bozeman-based Fours Five Productions, ColorBURN Productions and MontanaPBS. “Nikki is one of the most inspiring women we know.  Her endless courage, tenacity and drive to go after her goals is fascinating and awe-inspiring.  After learning about Nikki’s plans to do an endurance challenge on the Long Trail, we knew this was a film we had to make,” said Producer/Director Jaime Jacobsen.

A crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo is currently underway to raise $30,000 for the post-production of the documentary.  The film’s Indiegogo campaign will run from November 1, 2012 until December 15, 2012.  For information on how to contribute, visit:

Finding Traction will be broadcast on PBS and submitted to the film festivals across the country in Spring 2013.  Community screenings will take place throughout the states of Montana and Vermont, and in other key locations in New York, California, Colorado and Utah.
