OLATHE, Kan., October 17, 2012 /3BL Media/ - Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading humanitarian organization based in suburban Kansas City, announced today that it is presenting long-time corporate supporter FedEx with its highest honor, the Heart for Humanity Award, as part of the organization's 20-year celebration on Friday, Oct. 26.

The Heart for Humanity Award is presented to honorees that have demonstrated an enduring commitment to improving global health through Heart to Heart's humanitarian work around the world.

"We are privileged to present this distinguished award to FedEx," said Andre T. Butler, Heart to Heart's CEO. "For more than 17 years, FedEx has been our global transportation provider, mobilizing an average of $40 million worth of medical aid to 50 countries (including the United States) every year."

Butler added: "FedEx supports us financially, gives us access to its powerful global transportation network, and has even provided its most valuable asset--its people--to help advance our mission of creating a healthier world. For these reasons and much more, FedEx has earned this high honor."

FedEx began working with Heart to Heart International in 1995 on a goodwill airlift to Vietnam. The project coincided with the 20-year anniversary of the end of the war in Vietnam. Over the next two years, FedEx supported Heart to Heart airlifts to India (working with Mother Teresa) and to China. In 1998, FedEx flew relief missions to Honduras as Heart to Heart responded to people affected by Hurricane Mitch. Since then, FedEx works closely with Heart to Heart during international disasters. The company even made its international hub in Paris available to Heart to Heart, so it could store relief supplies for disaster zones in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Previous Heart for Humanity Award honorees include such entities as the American Academy of Family Physicians, Johnson & Johnson, Rotary International, and Hallmark Cards.

The award will be presented to Tom Parker, FedEx managing director, at the 2012 Heart to Heart Experience on Friday, Oct. 26. People interested in joining Heart to Heart to honor FedEx are encouraged to purchase tickets to the event online at http://experience.hearttoheart.org .

Heart to Heart International is improving global health through humanitarian initiatives that connect people and resources to a world in need. Since 1992, Heart to Heart has delivered aid worth more than $1 billion to 125 countries, including the United States. The organization was named to The Chronicle of Philanthropy's prestigious "Philanthropy 400" list of the top nonprofits in the United States in 2011 and was ranked by Forbes.com as one of the 20 most efficient charities in America for the fifth consecutive year.
