An email from a special colleague you haven’t heard from in a while. A cheerful voicemail message from a dear friend. A text that makes you feel special. A heartwarming tag on social media. Our days are brightened by these unexpected connections.

Well, we received an email the other day from one of the relief organizations we support: Water Mission. In it was this unexpected link to a day-brightening 1-minute video of the organization in action.

With so many named storms already this hurricane season, last hurricane season seems like a distant memory to many of us. However, for those in the Bahamas, recovery from hurricane Dorian continues, as you’ll see in the video.

Working with Water Mission, we helped with the relief effort in the Bahamas after Dorian devastated the islands. Salt water made its way into wells and cisterns, making water undrinkable.

Water Mission used reverse osmosis (RO) technology, to treat the water and make it drinkable. At the height of the disaster, 16 RO systems were installed. The systems produce more than 67,000 gallons of safe water each day for thousands of people. Yes, Water Mission has brightened the days of many in the Bahamas with clean water.

When disasters occur around the world, Water Mission uses the extensive FedEx transportation network to move their water purification systems from their headquarters in the US to the disaster site. For many years, as part of our FedEx Cares Delivering for Good initiative, we’ve donated shipping services to them, which increases their capacity to serve people in need around the world.
