CRS Comments on Proposed Revision to the FTC Green Guides

Dec 15, 2010 12:52 PM ET

(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) December 15, 2010 - Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) has received requests from many Green-e participants and other stakeholders to provide our thoughts on the Federal Trade Commission's recently released proposed update to its Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims ("Green Guides"). CRS will be submitting comments, and we have developed a summary of the key points we will be making to the Commission. Overall, we are very supportive of the proposed update and find that it reinforces many of the consumer-protection practices required by Green-e certification, but there are a few areas where we suggest further consideration and clarification.

The updated Green Guides will have important impacts on independent certification programs like Green-e, as well as on products and services that are increasingly looking at reducing their environmental footprint as a way to differentiate themselves in the broader marketplace. We look forward to the increased level of consumer confidence in environmental claims and truth in advertising the updated Green Guides will bring.
