Companies Recognized for Innovative Solutions to Today’s Social Challenges

(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) WASHINGTON, D.C. — Dec 07, 2010 — At an awards dinner last night hosted by the U.S. Chamber Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC), Best Buy, Cargill, Deloitte LLP with College Summit, Navistar Diesel of Alabama, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP were honored with the 2010 Corporate Citizenship Award. The annual awards program honors the social and civic commitments of the finalist companies.

“The past year reflects a turning point in the field of corporate citizenship,” said BCLC Executive Director Stephen Jordan. “It’s clear that social involvement and community engagement are core elements of business strategy today. This year’s winners are innovators who have developed creative ways to respond to the challenges of our time.”

BCLC presented awards in the following categories:

Corporate Stewardship — Best Buy won this category as a nod to its overall culture, its operational practices, and for creating shared value benefitting both the company and society.

U.S. Community Service — Sharing the award are Navistar Diesel of Alabama and PricewaterhouseCoopers. The companies received this award for an innovative employee program to combat the recession and for pro bono employee service at various nonprofit organizations, respectively.

International Community Service — Cargill received this award for social involvement in countries including Côte d'Ivoire, Indonesia, and Vietnam, contributing to increased economic opportunity for local communities and their residents.

Partnership Award — Deloitte and its nonprofit partner, College Summit, took top honors in this people’s choice category, earning the award for their work to increase college enrollment rates in low-income U.S. communities.
