In recognition of its annual Week of Resourcefulness, Itron, Inc., the technology company innovating the way cities and utilities manage energy and water, and Discovery Education, the leading provider of standards-aligned digital curriculum resources, engaging content, and professional learning for K-12 classrooms, are encouraging students, educators, and communities to explore the relationship between energy and water with no-cost digital learning resources from Conservation Station: Creating a More Resourceful World .

Week of Resourcefulness, a virtual event dedicated to introducing resources and activities in K-12 classrooms, takes place September 26-30 and highlights turnkey tools that help educators support sustainability education wherever learning is taking place. STEM Career Sit-Downs, a new collection of resources centered around introducing students to STEM professionals innovating at the heart of the energy-water nexus to help conserve our world’s most precious resources, will also premiere.

During the Week of Resourcefulness, students will discover how to harvest school energy, analyze global energy consumption, improve water efficiency and utilize smart technology to create more resourceful communities. In addition, a school-to-home companion activity will empower families to work together to create a blueprint of their living space that highlights methods for energy and water conservation.

Join the ‘Week of Resourcefulness’ and explore a new activity each day of the week:

MON., 9/26: STEM Career Sit-Downs: Give students an inside look at STEM innovation with these two all-new, in-depth interviews with Itron’s STEM professionals, conducted by students and offering a unique perspective on what it takes to succeed in careers related to sustainability.

TUES., 9/27: The Internet of Things Virtual Field Trip: Students will get an exciting look at how the internet they use in their everyday lives can be harnessed to conserve natural resources, protect ecosystems, and create safer, more sustainable communities.

WED., 9/28: Clean Water & Sanitation Classroom Activity: In this activity, students will work in small engineering design teams to investigate the challenges communities are facing with water, analyze data and determine how leaking/aging infrastructure is a problem that water, and wastewater companies must work to solve.

THU., 9/29: Smart Cities Virtual Field Trip: The road to conservation begins with people who live in smart cities. Join us as we delve into what exactly makes a city “smart” and how innovative urban technologies are solving today’s challenges related to the conservation of water and energy.

FRI., 9/30: Energy Audit Family Activity: Send students home for the weekend with and opportunity for Families will identify the top 3 devices that consume the most electrical energy and develop a plan to reduce the amount of energy used in the house.

"Itron is proud to partner with Discovery Education as we work together to improve energy and water literacy, promote conservation and inspire future generations to help shape a more resourceful world,” said Callie Bendickson, Principal of Corporate Social Responsibility at Itron. “As we celebrate this year’s Week of Resourcefulness, we are excited to present new digitally immersive educational activities and experiences specifically designed to engage today’s tech-savvy students. At Itron, we believe the way we manage energy and water will define the century, and it is our hope that the Conservation Station program will empower student learning and innovations for a more sustainable future.”

Launched in 2018, Itron and Discovery Education partnered to create Conservation Station: Creating a More Resourceful World to spark a national dialogue about the importance of students’ understanding of current and future energy needs, resource utilization and conservation. Program materials dive into the relationship between energy and water, and how innovative technologies are working to conserve both resources through the core pillars of resourcefulness: effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.
