Nokia: Extreme Weather Resilience
Connectivity as the backbone of the critical systems that keep communities safe
Storms, floods, wildfires and extreme heat are becoming more frequent and more severe, putting sustained stress on the infrastructure people depend on. When extreme weather strikes, networks become lifelines. They carry emergency communications, help first responders coordinate, and keep power, healthcare and early warning systems running.
We explore how AI-enabled connectivity helps utilities, public safety agencies, telecom operators and communities prepare for, withstand and recover from extreme weather. Examples range from modernizing national power grids to high-capacity fiber and satellite-integrated networks that keep people connected when ground infrastructure fails.
The series also looks at access. The least connected are often the most affected, so closing the digital divide is part of building resilience. It also highlights partnerships that turn shared lessons into action, including Nokia’s work with the Clinton Global Initiative on extreme weather risk.
