21CF Sponsors Nat Geo Photo Camps to Teach Young People the Power of Visual Storytelling
National Geographic Society and 21st Century Fox joined forces to welcome nearly 80 students around the world to Nat Geo’s signature Photo Camp workshops, which teach young people from under-served communities, including at-risk and refugee teens, to use photography to tell their own stories, explore the world around them, and develop deep connections with others.

Fox Partners With Kennedy Center to Celebrate and Support Arts Education in Schools
To mark the upcoming new seasons of hit music dramas Empire and Star, FOX Broadcasting Company and parent company 21st Century Fox have launched #EmpireStarGivesBack, a social media campaign benefiting the Turnaround Arts program at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. For every social media post using #EmpireStarGivesBack and #Promo, 21CF and FOX will donate $2 (up to $50,000) to Turnaround Arts, which empowers struggling schools across the United States with new opportunities for arts education and arts-based learning.

In celebration of the fall returns of hit music dramas EMPIRE and STAR, Fox Broadcasting Company and parent company 21st Century Fox have teamed up with Turnaround Arts, a national program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, for a new social campaign. As one of the marquee national education initiatives of the Kennedy Center, Turnaround Arts empowers struggling schools with innovative arts programs and arts-based learning across subject areas as a strategy to help address broader school challenges and close the opportunity gap.

Fox Announces Keely MacDonald as 2017 Fellow from the Fox Writers Lab, a Fellowship Program for Screenwriters with Diverse Voices and Backgrounds
Fox Inclusion recently announced writer Keely MacDonald has received a script development deal from Fox Broadcasting Company after being named this year’s Fox Writers Lab Fellow. MacDonald was chosen from a group of 13 experienced finalists at the Fox Writers Lab, a 14-week program hosted by Fox Inclusion that gives its finalists direct access to Fox writers, directors, and executives to further their screenwriting skills on the Fox Lot in Los Angeles.

Television Academy Honors 21st Century Fox Projects for Advancing Social Change
At the Tenth Annual Television Academy Honors on June 8, three programs from 21st Century Fox businesses were recognized for harnessing “the extraordinary power of television to advance social change.” The honorees included National Geographic’s Before the Flood, a documentary from Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Fisher Stevens about the global effects of climate change, as well This Is Us and Speechless, two series produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television.

FX Networks’ 'Atlanta' and 'Better Things' Win Peabody Awards for Telling “Stories That Matter”
Two of FX Networks’ most acclaimed comedy series, Atlanta and Better Things, were honored on May 20 at the 76th Annual Peabody Awards ceremony, a celebration of excellence in storytelling across the media industry, including investigative journalism, documentary filmmaking, entertainment television, and radio/podcasts. Better Things creator and star Pamela Adlon, as well as Atlanta cast members Brian Tyree Henry and Zazie Beetz, were on hand to accept the awards.

In Partnership with Ghetto Film School and Bold Tendencies, 21st Century Fox Supports and Celebrates Aspiring Young Filmmakers at London’s BAFTA
On Tuesday, March 21, students from 21st Century Fox partner Ghetto Film School and South London creative non-profit Bold Tendencies held a special screening in London for Ghetto Film School’s 2016 Thesis Films, Ghost of a Chance and Genesis. The short films are the product of almost a year of cross-country and international collaboration between students in Los Angeles, New York, and London. The event brought out the good and the great from London’s film industry, including Academy Award-winning actress Emma Thompson, The Darjeeling Limited actress Amara Karan, actor Babou Ceesay, model and actress Lily Cole, and filmmakers Matthew Vaughn and Ol Parker. Ghetto Film School Students Pitch Original Promo Ideas for FOX’s Star to Network Executives as Part of Industry 101 Course
Last month, longtime 21st Century Fox partner Ghetto Film School took its students to Fox Studios to pitch their ideas for short clips promoting FOX’s hot new show, Star. The students’ pitch presentations were part of GFS’ Industry 101 project, a semester-long class where high school students learn to create short video promos for a real client. The project gives them first-hand experience with the business behind film and television, teaches them the art of incorporating traditional storytelling strategies into 30-second promos, and helps them understand the process of working with clients.

Fox’s ‘Hidden Figures,’ ‘The Birth of a Nation’ and ‘This Is Us’ Win Humanitas Prizes for Telling Stories that Bring us Together
At a ceremony in Los Angeles on February 22, the organization Humanitas announced the recipients of its 42nd Annual Humanitas Prize, recognizing the screenwriters behind two films and one television series from 21st Century Fox. Theodore Melfi and Allison Schroeder, who wrote Fox 2000’s Hidden Figures, tied with Robert Schenkkan of Hacksaw Ridge to win the Feature Film category, while Nate Parker and Dan Fogelman were honored for writing Fox Searchlight’s The Birth of a Nation and the 20th Century Fox Television production This Is Us, respectively. The Humanitas Prize celebrates onscreen stories that reflect a dedication to social progress and inspire compassion, hope and understanding.
