Strategic partnership provides organisations with consultation and services for compliance with prevailing and emerging carbon legislation

(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) DITTON PARK, UK, November 11, 2010 – Siemens IT Solutions and Services and CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) have today announced a strategic alliance to provide carbon and sustainability management tools and processes that measure, assess and report environmental impact and performance within an organisation.  The collaboration will combine CA Technologies and its CA ecoSoftware suite with Siemens’ multi-discipline industrial experience in carbon and sustainability management.  By working together, the solution and implementation skills of both companies will support organisations on their sustainability journey and facilitate compliance with carbon legislation.

The introduction of the Government’s Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme this year and the passing of the initial registration period has increased the importance of carbon management issues to senior management. Furthermore, the availability of accurate carbon and sustainability performance data to support organisational leaders is even more relevant following the recent Spending Review, which saw the Government announce that allowances bought by companies would no longer be ‘recycled’ back at the end of the reporting year.  This has highlighted the need for organisations to create a climate change and sustainability strategy, to pursue more accurate data, to enable the tracking and forecasting of carbon emissions in order to gain long-term cost savings.

“The complementary strengths of Siemens and CA Technologies have been fused together in response to the needs of the executive boardroom for a technology and process solution that can accurately and robustly support environmental sustainability challenges,” said John Hall, Head of Strategy & Portfolio for North West Europe at Siemens IT Solutions and Services.  “This alliance will enable the measurement and management of business relevant data via one central repository to facilitate swift decision making and operational efficiencies.  Siemens has partnered with CA Technologies as its CA ecoSoftware solution is an excellent fit for many of our enterprise clients and provides a secure and scalable solution for the sustainability journey.  It is essential that UK Plc is now engaged on the long term sustainable journey.”

“Carbon managers and sustainability executive can quickly deliver reports and forecasts from CA ecoSoftware by systematically pulling together data from thousands of disparate sources across the enterprise.  It is a giant leap forward from the spreadsheets that some organisations are still using to manually calculate emissions and liabilities,” said Sonny Masero, vice president, Sustainability EMEA, CA Technologies.  “By partnering with Siemens we can move positively ahead with software and process implementation advice that will deliver streamlined reporting to organisations.  The collaboration will also enable us to reach out further into sectors such as energy, healthcare, public sector, technology and financial services.”

The Siemens and CA Technologies sustainability and carbon management alliance was announced today at Green IT Expo in London.  A whitepaper entitled ‘Accelerating the Sustainability Journey’ setting out a five-step approach to achieving practical and measurable results, can be downloaded at http://www.ca.com/gb/collateral/white-papers/emea/CA-Technologies-and-Siemens-Alliance.
