The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy has released its annual list of the greenest vehicles available on the market in 2014.

We are happy to announce that the 2014 Buick Encore and 2014 Chevrolet Spark have earned a place on the list of their “Greener Choices.”

The Encore’s 33-mpg highway estimate beats out such competitors as the Mini Countryman and Volkswagen Tiguan. Its combined fuel economy also beats the combined EPA fuel economy of Ford’s most efficient version of the Escape crossover.

As for the Spark, it achieves 30 miles per gallon in the city, 39 on the highway and 34 combined – a two mile-per-gallon improvement over the 2013 model.

To make the “Greener Choices” list, the models must be widely available within each vehicle class, with the Spark making it to the top of the Subcompact list.

The overall list is provided to show that consumers have green options out there, regardless of their vehicle needs.

The environmental rating methodology for ACEEE’s Green Book® is based on principles of life cycle assessment and environmental economics. The approach combines the impacts of regulated criteria pollutants with those of greenhouse gas emissions, covering the vehicle life cycle, emissions, and manufacturing and disposal impacts.

The Chevrolet Spark and Buick Encore ranked among the top five highest scores for gas-powered vehicles.
