BSR Launches Inaugural Global Forum for Business Leadership on Climate in Paris, June 11-12, 2014

Paris, April 28, 2014 /3BL Media/ - BSR is announcing its inaugural Spring Forum, “Climate Action: The Urgency of Business Leadership,” a gathering for 150 leaders from business, civil society, international organizations, and government to catalyze bold, collective action for a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy, to be held in Paris from June 11-12, 2014.

As noted in the recent IPCC climate reports, the science is clear: We must hold global mean temperature rise to less than 2°C above pre-industrial levels to avoid significant and potentially irreversible risks to our planet and population. Meanwhile, the stakes for business could not be greater. Some estimates note the cumulative, global cost of climate change impacts could be as high as US$4 trillion by 2030 if the current rate of greenhouse gas emissions continues.

BSR has activated its network to make a 2°C pathway achievable, launching the multiyear initiative Business in a Climate-Constrained World to mobilize business in support of urgent and ambitious action on climate change. For more than 20 years, BSR has provided the preeminent global platform for sharing best practices, collaborative approaches, and opportunities to advance sustainable business.

The BSR Spring Forum is one important element to spur collaboration among companies, regulators, and civil society organizations for business leadership.

“Companies are eager to turn conversation into tangible steps on climate, and we’re creating a dynamic moment for strategy and collaboration on how business can act,” said Peder Michael Pruzan-Jorgensen, BSR’s Vice President, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. “The BSR Spring Forum will build efforts to catalyze collective action in the lead up to a new international climate agreement at the COP 21 talks in 2015, taking place, not coincidentally, in Paris.”
