February 14, 2013 /3BL Media/ - More than 50 employees of rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation supported the charitable food bank project “Berliner Tafel” in gathering fruit and vegetables in the Berlin exhibition halls last Friday. Employees from the head office of Bombardier Transportation in Berlin and from Europe's largest Bombardier site in Hennigsdorf, Brandenburg, participated in the project for the third time in a row.

Under its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, Bombardier Transportation focuses its community activities on projects related to education, environment and entrepreneurship. The Berliner Tafel project addresses the environmental responsibility of redistributing fresh food to people in need instead of disposing of it.

The Bombardier volunteers helped the Berliner Tafel to collect the food from all exhibition halls in a matter of hours so the project could distribute the food to collection points in Berlin and Brandenburg at the weekend. Last year, the initiative collected a total of 130 tonnes of food for this charitable cause.

“The commitment of our employees to the Berliner Tafel project is founded on our company’s global approach to give something back to the communities in which we operate,” said Michael Clausecker, Chairman of the Management Board, Bombardier Transportation Germany. “Employees at our head office also serve as role models for the entire organization. During the past year, we took part in a tree-planting event in a park in the immediate neighbourhood of the head office as well as supporting the German children’s charity “Die Arche” (The Ark). Our employees’ big volunteering effort at this year's Berliner Tafel project encourages us to continue our community engagement in 2013.”
