Feb. 13, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation celebrated 1,500 accident free days at the bogie assembly hall of its Savli site in Gujarat. Savli is the only railway vehicle manufacturing site in India to achieve this feat to date.

In addition, the site’s International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) certification – Environmental standard (ISO 14001:2004) and Occupational Health and Safety standard (OHSAS 18001:2007) – was recently upgraded, making it the only site in India that is accredited with Quality Management System Certification IRIS Revision 02 and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) management system compliant.

The Mayor of Vadodara, Dr. Jyotiben Pandya, Vinod Rao, District Collector, and P.M. Shah, Joint Director, Industrial Health and Safety, Vadodara region, congratulated Bombardier’s employees at the Savli site on their significant contribution to this success.

“This achievement showcases the safety culture of Bombardier and sets a benchmark performance for other companies in the region to aspire to,” said the Mayor, Dr. Pandya. “Safety of the employees is the primary and foremost responsibility of any organisation. This achievement supports and strengthens the Gujarat Government’s ambition to set an example for the whole of India in terms of economic growth and industrialization.”

“We are committed to our sites in India joining the best in the world with a common and focused goal to be a lean site with flexibility, innovation, respect for the environment and a customer-oriented approach,” added Harsh Dhingra, Chief Country Representative, Bombardier Transportation India. “Bombardier employees are trained to actively look and highlight possible safety issues. This remarkable achievement is the result of excellent teamwork and underlines our slogan: We care for our People.”

The bogie assembly hall at Savli has manufactured more than 1,250 BOMBARDIER FLEXX bogies for metros operating on the Delhi Metro network and is producing semi-complete FLEXX Metro 3001 bogies for Adelaide’s Suburban Rail Network in Australia.

Bombardier has more than 160 years’ experience in developing and producing running gear for rail vehicles and its bogies are world-renowned for their quality, innovation and performance. More than 200,000 FLEXX bogies are successfully operating around the world and Bombardier Transportation manufactures more than 4,000 of these bogies each year. Employees at the bogie manufacturing hall in Savli are fully trained according to Bombardier’s global standards to ensure the highest quality.
