Bloomberg is about to take thousands of bees under its wing. We’re proud to take part in the movement for more eco-conscious cities by expanding our bee program – currently available in our Princeton, New Jersey and London offices – to host beehives at our three New York City offices (731 Lexington Ave, 120 Park Ave and 919 3rd Ave). Starting in June, our thousands of new colleagues will pollinate the urban flora that surrounds us during the summer. At the end of the season, we’ll harvest their honey and share hundreds of jars with our community.

We have partnered with Alvéole, a social beekeeping company, to install and maintain the Bloomberg bees. Since 2013, Alvéole has partnered with hundreds of companies and schools on beekeeping projects. Each hive creates greater ecological awareness, allowing city dwellers to reconnect with nature and adjust their sense of responsibility towards the environment. So in honor of Earth Day on April 22 and in preparation of the program launch, we sat down with our beekeeper, Leta Selmanović from Alvéole, to learn more about urban beekeeping and why this is an important sustainability initiative for companies like Bloomberg.
