In 2020, the Arbor Day Foundation made significant progress towards the Time for Trees initiative's landmark goal:

  • 56,048,771 trees planted
  • 5,852,132 planters gained
  • 18 corporate partners

Our goals through this initiative are to plant 100 million trees and inspire 5 million tree planters to help carry our mission forward — all by 2022, the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day and the 50th anniversary of the Arbor Day Foundation.

The 100 million trees will be planted in forests and communities throughout the U.S. and around the world. We will be restoring forests affected by wildfires and other natural disasters, distributing trees to those eager to plant in their own yards, and establishing better urban tree cover so all residents can enjoy the benefits. And along the way, we are working to inspire new tree planters of all ages to spread the positive impact even further.

Since the public launch of the initiative in March of 2019, we have seen tremendous interest in the incredible potential of trees. Tree planting partners, corporate partners, social media influencers, and members alike are rallying together with us to create transformational change through the scale of these extraordinary goals. And we’re encouraged that more than 5 million tree planters have participated, surpassing our goal two years early.

If ever there was a time to plant trees, now is that time.

We are inspired by the momentum the Time for Trees initiative has gained. Together, we are building a better tomorrow… through trees.
