Aramark and Congreso Improve Health and Wellness of Philadelphia Families

Throughout Philadelphia, adults and children face many challenges to eating nutritious foods and living healthy lives. Many of the preventable diseases plaguing this community, like diabetes, are associated with obesity. In the area served by Congreso, one of the city’s largest multi-service organizations for the Hispanic community, 37.1% of adults and 39.8% of children six and older were reported as overweight or obese in a 2012 survey by Public Health Management Corporation.

Microsoft Expands Global YouthSpark Initiative to Focus on Computer Science

Microsoft Corp. announced on Wednesday a new commitment of $75 million in community investments over the next three years to increase access to computer science education for all youth, and especially for those from under-represented backgrounds. Through the company’s global YouthSpark initiative, scores of nonprofit organizations around the world will receive cash donations and other resources to provide computer science education to diverse populations of young people in their communities and prepare them with the computational-thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for success in an increasingly digital world.

Ghetto Film School Will Screen Student Films at LACMA

On Friday, September 18, Ghetto Film School Los Angeles and the nonprofit Film Independent will present the second annual GFS LA Screening Showcase, where GFS students' 11-minute short films will screen at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the largest art museum in the western United States. GFS, which offers hands-on training and film education to young people from low-income communities, is now in its second year in Los Angeles. 21st Century Fox is the funding sponsor of GFS LA.
