There are many other programs, like Teach for America and City Year, that provide the opportunity for young Americans to do service, but the U.S. has never developed a major nationwide initiative or campaign that has truly transformed how we think about national service in our country and how it can improve the quality of life for both U.S. citizens and people globally. On January 27, 2016 Goldcorp was the proud presenting sponsor of Dress for Success’ Casino Night, an exclusive ladies-only event which took place at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Now in its second year, the event brought together 120 women working in mining and mining–related fields, who collectively raised over $48,000 in support of Vancouver’s Dress for Success. Net proceeds of the event will make it possible for approximately 600 local women to participate in programs that empower women to achieve economic independence by providing professional attire, career services, and skills development programs to help women thrive in work and in life.

En su segundo año consecutivo, éste evento reunió a 120 mujeres que trabajan en la industria minera y en áreas relacionadas a éste sector, quienes en conjunto recaudaron más de $48,000 mil dólares en apoyo a dicha organización. Lo recaudado durante el evento hará posible que alrededor de 600 mujeres de la población local participen en programas de empoderamiento para poder alcanzar una independencia económica, al proveerles de atuendos ejecutivos, servicios de asistencia laboral y programas de desarrollo de habilidades, con el fin de ayudarlas a superarse tanto en el ámbito laboral como personal.

Pour sa deuxième année, l’événement a réuni 120 femmes travaillant dans l’exploitation minière et les secteurs connexes et a permis d’amasser plus de 48 000 $ à l’appui de l’organisme L’étoffe du succès de Vancouver (Dress for Success). Le produit net de l’événement permettra à environ 600 femmes de la région de participer à des programmes qui aident les femmes à atteindre l’indépendance économique en leur fournissant des vêtements professionnels, des services d’orientation de carrière et des programmes de perfectionnement professionnel pour se tailler une place avec success.

Once a week for four weeks last summer, Kita Mitcham gathered 25 of her friends, family and other members of the Good Hope Mission Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia, to talk about lung cancer prevention and the benefits of early screening for the disease. Ms. Mitcham is one of about 45 community health workers who are educating nearly 500 people in 12 minority and underserved communities in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) about lung cancer prevention and screening.
