AECOM has published its annual enterprise safety, health and environment report named "A culture of caring."

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 10, 2014 /3BL Media/ — AECOM Technology Corporation, the world’s #1-ranked engineering design firm, announced today that it has published its annual enterprise safety, health and environment (SH&E) report.

Titled “A culture of caring,” the report illustrates how AECOM’s deep-rooted safety culture sets the expectation that employees, contractors and business partners should take personal responsibility for keeping colleagues safe.  The report features project examples and employee anecdotes focused on AECOM’s safety culture — especially those related to the firm’s successful “Safety for Life” program — as well as the company’s SH&E best practices, goals and performance.

“With safety as an essential part of AECOM’s DNA, we pride ourselves on the improvements we’ve made across the organization in the past year to ensure our people remain safe — whether they’re in the office, at a project site or at home,” said Michael S. Burke, AECOM’s chief executive officer.  “We genuinely care about the well-being of our employees, clients and stakeholders.”

Some of AECOM’s fiscal year 2014 (FY14) highlights include:

  • Receiving the Gold 2014 International Business Award in the Health, Safety & Environment Program of the Year category for the Middle East and Africa.  This award recognizes AECOM’s successful accident and injury prevention policies, strong safety awareness programs, and strict adherence to environmental and occupational health and safety laws.
  • AECOM’s URS operation receiving two President’s Awards at the 2013 Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards program, which follow a 15-year legacy of RoSPA recognition.
  • Achieving an experience modification rate (EMR) of .50 — the lowest in AECOM’s history.  The EMR, a common safety indicator, is based upon the frequency and severity of injuries related to the amount of payroll.
  • Successfully rolling out the company’s online incident reporting system, IndustrySafe, globally.
  • Improving the company’s lost-time injury rate, a measure of the relative severity of work-related injuries and illnesses, by 69 percent.

Editor’s Note: The aforementioned FY14 metrics do not include URS, which joined AECOM shortly after the start of fiscal year 2015.

“This report is intended to give a closer look into AECOM’s culture of caring that helps to reinforce the importance of safety across the organization,” said Andrew Peters, AECOM senior vice president and chief safety officer.  “I’m proud of the safety advancements we’ve made this year, and look forward to future growth in safety, now in partnership with our URS peers.”
