Today, New Orleans children are receiving a new playground in Eastshore Park as part of a donation from CITGO Petroleum Corporation to KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit dedicated to bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all kids. Nearly 100 volunteers from the New Orleans community and the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) are gathering to construct this playground – taking part in equipment assembly, painting, carpentry, gardening and more – two days before the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Continuing efforts to bring free books and a love of reading to children in underserved communities, CITGO Petroleum Corporation joined mobile literacy program Bess the Book Bus in kicking off the next leg of its 2015 national tour on August 24 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Since January, Bess the Book Bus has distributed more than 29,000 free books to 21,000 children – and is well on the way to reaching its goal of distributing 100,000 books to 25,000 children across more than 30 states this year alone.

One year ago AMD announced its25x20 initiative with the goal to achieve a 25x typical energy efficiency improvement of our APUs (Accelerated Processing Units) by 2020, from a 2014 baseline. Energy efficiency has long been a product design goal of AMD, and with the explosion of computing devices and capabilities over the last 20 years, AMD is on a path to focus on the energy and environmental footprint of computing. Energy efficiency is calculated as a ratio of work completed (i.e. performance) to how much energy is consumed completing that work.
