More than 200 volunteers, including T. Rowe Price associates, built a new playground at Gilmor Elementary School in West Baltimore.

The Gilmor project was one of three playgrounds raised in Baltimore, MD during the month of October as part of Play More B'More, an initiative spearheaded by KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit dedicated to giving all kids the childhood they deserve filled with play.

"Baltimore City leadership, the private sector, the philanthropic community, and child-serving community organizations all came together to address the city's toughest challenges by prioritizing the needs of kids and families," says KaBOOM! President James Siegal. "Through the Play More B'More initiative, Baltimore is at the forefront of playability, taking action to make it as easy as possible for all kids, particularly kids growing up in poverty, to get the play they need to thrive. "

The event pulled together volunteers from businesses, community groups, nonprofit organizations, the neighborhood, and the school.

“With our headquarters in Baltimore City, it’s important that we take an active role in the community, lifting up all our children and providing them with a safe place to play,” says Renee Christoff, head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). “The kids who will use this playground received a very positive message that the whole community—businesses, politicians, police, civic groups, and local neighbors—care about them and their future.”

The event was the latest in a series of efforts by the firm’s Maryland offices to support the West Baltimore neighborhoods affected by the unrest last spring. Other events have included a school uniform drive and a volunteer day at Matthew Henson Elementary School. To learn more on how T.
