Republic Services: Evergreen State Fair

Highland Elementary students and members of its “Green Team” accepted an award from Republic Services for achieving Star Recycler status.

Members of the Republic Services team, Council members from Snohomish and Klickitat Counties, the Snohomish County Executive and publisher of the Everett Daily Herald, awaited their turn at the podium to help launch the Evergreen State Fair.

L-R: Matthew Pederson (Spokane office), Laura Scarsella (Seattle), Carla Johnson (Bellevue), Abby Christensen (NW Area) and Mike Huycke( NW Area President) helped usher in another state fair under clear blue skies and the blue Republic tent.

Snohomish County Executive, John Lovick, talked about the benefit of community partnership and officially opened the fair just before 2:30PM on August 27.

On August 27, members of the Republic Services team gathered on stage with the Snohomish County Council, Executive, Klickitat County Commissioner and the publisher of the Everett Daily Herald to kick off opening day at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe, WA. As part of the festivities, Republic presented teachers and students of Highland Elementary with an award for achieving an excellent record in recycling. The theme of the day was community partnership on behalf of a greener tomorrow, something students demonstrated with tips to become better stewards of the environment. The Everett Herald highlighted several firsts including its unique partnership with Republic and the Newspaper in Education program, an effort that is bringing sustainability into classrooms all across the region.
