Pathways to a Lower-Carbon Future: C2ES Collaborates With Duke Energy and 20+ Companies on New Report

The nonpartisan Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) issued a report this week exploring the various paths to achieve an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions below 2005 levels by 2050. Duke Energy joined more than 20 other companies representing many sectors that helped develop the scenarios evaluated in the report.

“C2ES has taken on the important task of examining the climate challenges faced by all sectors of the economy, and we appreciate its thoughtful approach,” Duke Energy said in a statement. “We welcome this report because it points out that there is not just one pathway to get to a low-carbon economy and that everyone -- policymakers, companies and consumers -- needs to do their part to help reduce emissions.”

Duke Energy continues to make strong progress in reducing its carbon emissions through its transition to cleaner energy. We’ve already reduced our 2005 carbon levels by 31%, exceeding the standards of the Clean Power Plan and the U.S. commitment to the Paris Agreement. We continue to explore other ways to reduce our carbon emissions and echo the report’s call for innovation through research and technology development.
