National Grid is preparing to spend another summer educating area students about STEM careers.
National Grid regional executive Dennis Elsenbeck said that the initiative was born from an experience he had when looking to hire three energy engineers.
“We received hundreds of applicants, and among them we had no women or minorities apply,” he said. “We could have either accepted that or become part of the solution."
Elsenbeck said that many industries are looking at workplaces of the future from a STEM perspective. Recently, New York Power Authority and General Motors Co. Tonawanda Engine Plant hosted area students, to teach about STEM careers.
