PHOENIX, Oct. 28, 2014 /3BL Media/ – In observance of ENERGY STAR Day, LG Electronics USA today joined representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and fellow ENERGY STAR Partner Arizona Public Service (APS) to celebrate the completion of energy-efficiency upgrades to the U.S. Vets housing facility for homeless veterans in Phoenix.

To put the finishing touches on the energy-saving upgrades made at the facility, LG provided ENERGY STAR certified commercial washers and companion commercial dryers for use by the homeless veterans there. LG’s 3.6-cubic-foot commercial-grade coin-op washers installed at U.S. Vets are designed to significantly save energy and water. What’s more, LG’s 65-inch ENERGY STAR Most Efficient HDTV is the centerpiece of the U.S. Vets new recreation room.

“This project is a great example of how public-private partnerships can change the world,” said APS Energy Efficiency Program Manager Tom Hines. “Partnering on this milestone effort with LG and other ENERGY STAR Partners is making a positive impact on a place that 135 veterans call home – not to mention saving the U.S. Vets organization hundreds of thousands of dollars over the lifetime of the energy efficient upgrades installed.”

Today’s ribbon-cutting event in Phoenix is the final stop in the EPA’s first-ever “ENERGY STAR Change the World Tour,” a nationwide effort that brings together public and private organizations to make a positive impact on people’s lives through a range of energy-efficiency projects focused on community service. Together with official sponsors like LG, the EPA is leveraging the tour to inspire others to consider what they can do to make a positive impact through energy efficiency and to share their stories of the “power of positive energy” in celebration of ENERGY STAR Day.

“I have been awed and inspired by the community service provided by our ENERGY STAR Partners as part of our inaugural Change the World Tour,” said Jill Vohr, Director of Marketing, ENERGY STAR Labeling Branch. “These efforts show how energy efficiency can be a simple, yet powerful tool to help all Americans save energy, save money and make a difference in the fight against climate change.”

LG has taken on a major role in the Change the World Tour since its inception. In addition to the U.S. Vets community service project, LG has provided its award-winning ENERGY STAR certified electronics and home appliances for tour stops in Boston (Worcester, Mass.) and Denver. All told, LG provided tens of thousands of dollars of ENERGY STAR certified products to communities across the country as part of the Change the World Tour.

“This ENERGY STAR community service project in Phoenix truly harnesses the power of positive energy, and LG is proud to play our part, supporting our veterans while fighting climate change and promoting environmental sustainability,” said William Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics USA. “As a long-time ENERGY STAR partner, we are honored to have the opportunity to once again share our commitment to energy-efficiency.”
