JetBlue Foundation Celebrates National STEM Day
November 8 was National STEM Day, a day focused on inspiring young people to explore and pursue careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math—and the JetBlue Foundation participated in two fantastic events with its grantee partners to commemorate the day.
JetBlue hosted 18 students and two professors from the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico Bayamón at its New York City Support Center for a day-long program where crewmembers shared overviews of the different aspects of the airline’s operation including revenue management, air traffic control and fuel planning; and more.
In a separate event, Aviation High School (which is also located in Long Island City) hosted a “Sky Blue” day with eight crewmember volunteers from JetBlue’s Technical Operations team and JetBlue Foundation Ambassadors, who spoke at a student-led career panel in collaboration with Women In Aviation's Aviation H.S. Chapter. More than 40 students participated, and JetBlue volunteers toured the school after the panel, to check out the facilities and meet with students in various experiential shop classes.
The JetBlue Foundation supports Aviation High School with in-kind donations of technological equipment for their hangar programs and mentoring programs. It's just one of many initiatives JetBlue is involved in to help support young people's interest in pursuing STEM careers, such as:
- "Fly Like A Girl" events across our network.
- STEM and aviation-themed summer camps with Project Scientist
- A partnership with the Organization of Black Aerspace Professions for their Aviation Career Education (ACE Academy), where students learn directly from our Crewmembers and other aviation professionals
- Monetary grants to STEM education programs across our network
