On Thursday, May 3 JetBlue brought its award-winning service and low fares to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). To kick-off service, JetBlue hosted a two-day celebration for its newest route. The day before service started, JetBlue crewmembers participated in a special “JetBlue For Good Day of Service” at Jefferson Community School in Minneapolis. The day consisted of a Career Day Q&A between fifth graders and JetBlue pilots and crewmembers. Following Career Day, JetBlue donated 500 age-appropriate children books. Each fifth grade student had the opportunity to take a book home to build their personal libraries and some will be donated to the school’s library.

When entering a new market, JetBlue works to hire crewmembers from the local community. JetBlue believes service starts at home. More than just employees, crewmembers are members of the communities the airline serves. JetBlue believes its crewmembers don’t just work in communities like Minneapolis; it is where they call home. JetBlue’s goal is to become a responsible local corporate citizen from day one.

Education and community are key pillars of JetBlue For Good, the airline’s platform for social impact and corporate responsibility. Giving back is part of JetBlue’s DNA and is core to its mission of inspiring humanity. Centered around volunteerism and service, JetBlue For Good focuses on the areas that are most important to the airline’s customers and crewmembers - community, youth/education and the environment.

Why books? Research shows there is currently only one age-appropriate book for every 300 children in underserved communities. Children deserve the opportunity to take home their own, individual books and as a result, enable their imagination to soar with reading and take flight.
