Invitation to Review Sustainable Gaming Standard Draft

Dec 2, 2010 11:35 AM ET

(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) Madison, WI – December 2, 2010 – Leonardo Academy is inviting interested parties from within the gaming industry to provide a preliminary review of the latest draft of the Sustainable Gaming Standard (LEO-8000). This call is specifically directed towards, manufacturers of gaming equipment, casino operators, trade groups and regulators.

The Sustainable Gaming Standard (LEO-8000) is being developed under the rules of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). From the onset the goal of this process has been to help the gaming industry identify and communicate the sustainability parameters of their products and services and to allow industry purchasers to identify their sustainability preferences when purchasing gaming equipment and services. The standard development committee has developed comprehensive frameworks and sustainability metrics that assess environmental, social, and economic performance at all levels of the gaming industries supply and delivery chain and encourage continuous improvement in overall sustainability performance. Key components in the standard include energy use and emission reductions, as well as the procurement and use of more sustainable materials throughout the supply chain.

The current standard development committee is comprised of individuals and organizations representing the entire supply and delivery chain for gaming products and services—including manufacturers, suppliers of goods and services to gaming companies and organizations and their operations, end-users, government representatives, consumer groups, environmental organizations and NGOs. Work has been conducted on the standard since April 2009.

Michael Arny, President of Leonardo Academy, explains, “This is a voluntary standard and will engage the competitive market in driving the development of a green economy and bringing sustainability to new market sectors. Voluntary standards are important tools for driving change because they allow stakeholders from all levels of interest to get engaged in the standard development process. Leonardo Academy feels that at this stage, the draft standard should be reviewed by those most impacted by the standard before official public comment.”

To receive a copy of the draft standard and guidelines on how to review the document, please contact John Rodgers at Leonardo Academy (Tel: 608-280-0255, Email: jrodgers@leonardoacademy.org).  Additional information about the standard is available at: http://www.leonardoacademy.org/programs/standards/gaming.html. This particular review period will be open until February 28, 2011.
