BOISE, Idaho, April 29, 2019 /3BL Media/ -- Albertsons Companies and Albertsons Companies Foundation today announced the results of a wide-ranging donation and community involvement effort to effect change in the neighborhoods they serve.

Through the hard work of its employees and generosity of its customers, the nation’s second-largest food and drug retailer contributed nearly $262 million in food and financial support to important causes in 2018, continuing a long history of grassroots and enterprise-wide outreach.

“The report is an inspiring testament to the energy and the generosity of our employees and customers,” said Albertsons Companies Foundation Executive Director Christy Duncan Anderson. “It represents their commitment to being dedicated change agents where change is needed most, and to our employee promise to Make Every Day a Better Day.”

Albertsons Companies and Albertsons Companies Foundation gave $226 million in support to food banks and other hunger relief agencies last year, expanding their standing as one of the biggest retail supporters of hunger relief in the country. These donations were in addition to hundreds of tons of food contributed through local and regional food drives.

The company also mobilized its nearly 2,300 Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Tom Thumb, Shaw’s, Star Market, ACME Markets, Randalls, Haggen and other banner stores to undertake dozens of donation campaigns to support an array of outreach programs and causes.

Separately, Albertsons Companies Foundation released its 2018 Community Impact Report chronicling the positive effects made by customer contributions.

Through a series of campaigns, the Foundation raised $43 million for cancer research and treatment, outreach to veterans, hunger relief, health and wellness, disaster relief and other needs.

Donations were collected through a series of in-store fundraisers—some companywide, some regional, some run by one store and a dedicated crew of employees who were determined to make a difference. All funds remain local, supporting organizations that serve the communities in which they were raised.

The contributions translated into grants for 2,000 worthy non-profit organizations across the country that perform much-needed services.

The Foundation’s annual Hunger Is campaign to fight childhood hunger in America, set a record in 2018, raising $7.2 million in just 30 days. Funds from Hunger Is support breakfast programs, ensuring that children in low-income areas have a healthy start to their day.
