How to Be a Good Visitor at National Parks

The nation’s 59 national parks (the 60th, Missouri’s Gateway Arch, received an official national park designation in February 2018) saw more than 330 million visitors in 2017, which is a lot of footsteps, noise, waste and selfie poses in some of the wilderness’s most delicate treasures. “We’re really fortunate to have the privilege of having these incredible places to visit,” says biologist David Lamfrom, who directs wildlife programs for the National Parks Conservation Association. “We need to practice sustainability, which means leaving the park in a way that allows other people to have an experience similar to ours."
