Oxford, UK, September 30, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced the launch of the Energy Research & Social Science, a new journal dedicated to examining the relationship between energy systems and society.

Professor Benjamin Sovacool of Aarhus University and Vermont Law School will serve as Editor-in-Chief. The journal aims to cover a range of topics revolving around the intersection of energy technologies, fuels, and resources on one side, and social processes and influences on the other. This way research on topics such as communities of energy users, people affected by energy production, social institutions, customs, traditions, behaviors, and policies will also be included.

“If society’s energy problems go beyond technology and economics – if they are in part ethical, political, social, and behavioral – then we urgently need new ways of understanding these complex, and often hidden, social dimensions of the global energy system”, said Professor Sovacool. “It is human beings that consume energy services and that are responsible for global climate change. Comprehending them is vital to designing truly sustainable energy systems for our species and the planet.”

"Any new energy technology or process to increase energy efficiency needs to be explored from a societal point of view”, added Clare Lehane, Publisher at Elsevier “Energy Research & Social Science is a unique outlet for such research.”
