Ecocentricity Blog: A Burden to Bear

Sometimes I should just write less, and today is one of those days. I’m going to put my puns, wordplay, personal stories, and Star Wars references away and just get right to it. There’s a lengthy Mother Jones article you need to read, and the more that I write, the less time you’ll have to do so.

Here it is. Seriously, please read it. It’s about the emotional toll that climate scientists endure as a result of their line of work. It turns out that professionally staring down the negative impacts of our changing climate can weigh heavy on the hearts and minds of these women and men. Because…of course it does.

Full disclosure – some of the people interviewed for this piece are good friends of mine. Maybe that makes me biased, but it also means I have firsthand knowledge of their values and commitment. They are people of great courage, endurance, and love.

I read the article and was left with a single feeling – immense gratitude to these people for getting up and getting to work each and every day. To those whom I know personally and the many more whom I don’t, thank you so very much for what you do.
