(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) Chestnut Hill, Mass - April 19, 2011 - A video showing how Cummins engineers worked to bring an innovative power generation system to a remote village in India took first place in the annual Corporate Citizenship Film Festival, which attracted a record number of video entries and saw voters flooding online polls at a record rate.

The Carroll School of Management Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College conducted the Film Festival as part of its 2011 International Corporate Citizenship Conference, held April 10-12, in Minneapolis. A total of 37 companies submitted videos to compete for the Film Festival trophy for best demonstration of using video to tell a corporate citizenship story. Joining Cummins in the group of 10 finalists were Allstate, Avon, Dassault Systemes, Ernst & Young, FedEx, Marathon Oil, Southwest Airlines, Tyco and UST Global.   "It's fantastic to see this outstanding project get recognized in this way," said Carole Casto, Cummins director of Community Engagement, who narrated the video on the village of Padarwadi and accepted the trophy before a sold-out conference audience of more than 500. "The competition was extremely strong. Our Cummins India employees should be very proud."   Headquartered in Columbus, Ind., Cummins designs, manufactures, distributes and services engines and related technologies. The video tells the story of how Cummins India engineers developed a power generation system that runs on oil from the seeds of three indigenous trees found near Padarwadi. Working with village leaders and a local charitable group, Cummins employees disassembled the generator, a rice mill and the machinery to extract oil from the seeds, and helped carry it all down the path to Padarwadi, where it was re-assembled for use.   “Cummins’ entry is a tremendous demonstration of the power of video to tell an inspiring corporate citizenship story for a company,” said Katherine V. Smith, executive director of the Center for Corporate Citizenship. “All of the festival entries show that companies recognize the importance of using video, as well as other media, to communicate the good work they are doing in communities locally and globally.”   The Carroll School of Management Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College is a membership-based research organization committed to helping business leverage its social, economic and human assets to ensure both its success and a more just and sustainable world.
