CEMEX, a building materials industry leader in affordable housing, announced yesterday that it has completed 640 apartment residences in Colombia. The homes are part of a 3,000-unit urbanization project being undertaken by the company in collaboration with the government of Colombia.

The full project comprises 3,000 apartments divided into 96 towers of four stories each. The complexes will include recreational and green areas. The paving for the complex will be done with concrete also provided by CEMEX.

Colombian Housing Minister Luis Felipe Henao was present to inaugurate the homes at an event also attended by CEMEX executives and other government representatives and members of the local community. Many of the recipients of the new homes are low-income families that have not had access to an affordable home in the past.

“The houses we are delivering in Monteria are dignified, comfortable, and high-quality homes like every needy Colombian deserves,” says Minister Henao. “In this way, the National Government is supporting social investment so that more low-income families can have dignified housing.”

On April 7, CEMEX subsidiary CEMEX Latam Holdings announced it expects to participate in the construction of approximately 12,000 sustainable housing units in Latin America during 2014, as part of its continuous effort to strengthen its solutions based commercial offer.

“We are committed with the development of our region and are convinced that by promoting the construction of sustainable housing we are fostering well-being and creating value for all of our stakeholders,” said Carlos Jacks, CEO of CEMEX Latam Holdings and President of CEMEX in Colombia.

CEMEX constantly strives to help address the world’s housing challenge by helping build affordable housing and better, more modern, and durable community infrastructure such as roads and sidewalks, schools, hospitals, parks, and other public spaces.
