TIVERTON, ONTARIO, September 18, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Bruce Power has been awarded a gold level certification from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) for excellence in Aboriginal Relations.

This is the highest level of recognition offered by the CCAB and Bruce Power is one of only 12 companies in Canada to receive the designation.

"We're honoured and humbled by this recognition and profoundly grateful to the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business for its recognition of our efforts," said Duncan Hawthorne, Bruce Power's President and CEO. "This designation carries with it a great responsibility to build upon the work we've already done with our Aboriginal employees and the Aboriginal communities whose territories we operate within."

The Progressive Aboriginal Relations program is a comprehensive initiative offered by the CCAB that supports improvement and best practices in Aboriginal relations. The gold designation indicates that certified companies are good business partners; great places to work, and are committed to prosperity in Aboriginal communities.

"Bruce Power's continued participation in the Progressive Aboriginal Relations program reflects its commitment to building lasting Aboriginal relationships," said J.P. Gladu, President and CEO of the CCAB. "The Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business congratulates Bruce Power and looks forward to its continued success and our shared goal for the betterment of all our communities."

Bruce Power submitted its application earlier this year, the details of which were verified by an independent third party. Its outcomes and initiatives in four performance areas - employment, business development, community investment and community engagement - were reviewed by a jury of Aboriginal business people.
