NORTHBROOK, IL., Oct. 9, 2015 /3BL Media/ — The Astellas USA Foundation announced today the launch of its new website featuring an improved grant application portal for U.S.-based nonprofit 501c(3) organizations seeking contributions  that support programs of Health and Well Being, STEM Education and Disaster Relief. The Astellas USA Foundation will host a webinar at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) on Wednesday, Oct. 14 for organizations to learn more about its grant application process.

“The Astellas USA Foundation is committed to sustaining and enriching the communities where we live and work,” said Jeff Winton, president of the Astellas USA Foundation. “We are contributing to a healthier world and funding programs that inspire the next generation of scientists.”

Health and Well Being

The Health and Well Being giving area supports organizations delivering programs to improve the overall wellness of people in need.  In 2014, the Astellas USA Foundation supported the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign to expand access to life-saving childhood vaccines. The Astellas USA Foundation provided funding to immunize more than 100,000 children against measles in Latin America, train health care workers, ensure vaccine delivery and support and track measles cases.  Additionally, the Astellas USA Foundation’s Health and Well Being focus supported Stupid Cancer’s Instapeer, the first mobile app dedicated to connecting young adults impacted by cancer. Also, the Starlight Children’s Foundation remodeled two pediatric hospital wings with the help of the Astellas USA Foundation’s support.

STEM education

Through its commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education, the Astellas USA Foundation is awarding grants that inspire students, especially girls, to pursue careers in science-based industries.  Grants for STEM education programs provide mentoring and hands-on learning to students to cultivate their creativity, critical thinking, collaboration with others, and problem-solving skills.

For over three years, the Astellas USA Foundation supported iBIO Institute’s Stellar Girls, a 20-week program that allows teachers from approximately 25 Chicago area schools to provide after-school programming for 400 girls in grades three through eight.

Disaster Relief

As part of its commitment to supporting people when disaster strikes, the Astellas USA Foundation has continued a long-standing partnership with the American Red Cross®. Support from the Astellas USA Foundation enables the American Red Cross to provide food, shelter, recovery supplies as well as physical and mental health care in the U.S.
