“And the award goes too….”

RED was the color of choice at this week’s Emmy Awards and since furniture trends often follow fashion, Greenspiration Home is betting that everyone is going to love this Sonoma sofa from Kincaid Furniture

The sofa is actually available in many other color fabrics, but red was good enough for Kate Winslett, so it’s good enough for our Pick-of-the-Week.  Kate looks great in red and we think the classic lines of this sofa do as well.  Besides, everyone deserves at least one red piece of furniture.

Kincaid Furniture has been around since 1946 and is part of La-Z-Boy Incorporated’s family of companies.  Like most large furniture manufacturers, Kincaid has fought hard to keep its domestic factories open.  Today, all of Kincaid’s upholstered goods are still made in North Carolina. The company also sources many of its fabrics from domestic weavers, including Valdese Weavers, David Rothschild Company, Marlatex, and others.

These days, particleboard and cheap springs hide beneath many mass-produced, imported goods.  However, Kincaid features solid hardwood frames and offers longer lasting 8-way, hand-tied springs as an option on all its sofas and chairs.   So even though imports have cast a shadow over North Carolina’s furniture heritage, at least Kincaid is keeping this aged-old craftsmanship alive at its plant in Taylorsville, NC.

People & Planet

In addition to domestic manufacturing, Kincaid is invested in its own environmental initiatives—something else we like to hear.  It recently introduced its “Homecoming” line which is the pilot collection for the Eco3Home program developed by the American Home furnishings Alliance.  Eco3Home is a rigorous program that involves mandatory and voluntary standards for safety, health and environmental stewardship.

Kincaid is also the first furniture company to support Habitat for Humanity with a multi-year national relationship.

"Since our founding in 1946 we have maintained production facilities in our home towns in western North Carolina," says Kincaid Furniture vice president, upholstery sales and merchandising, Steve Beeker. "The fabric of our corporate identity is tied to our outstanding craftsmen and employees. We share a responsibility to build the best solid wood furniture we can and, in return, our success allows us to strengthen our communities for all our families and neighbors."
