Rebels with a Cause: Promoting Goodness
Business is much more than the bottom line to 30-somethings.
Mamadou-Abou Sarr was a long jumper and triple jumper as a teen in the suburbs of Paris—good enough to compete on a national level at 14. He gave up the sport because his father insisted he focus on his studies, but in many ways the eldest son of immigrants to France from Senegal and Benin hasn’t stopped jumping.
Sarr’s career has taken him from France to Senegal, England, the United Arab Emirates and, since 2016, the U.S. In Chicago, he oversees the Northern Trust Asset Management sustainable investing platform, a burgeoning unit for investments focused on environmental, social and governance strategies. That unit, which had $16 billion under management when Sarr joined Northern in 2011, now has $72 billion in 12 separate funds.
