The 2015 report by Nestlé continues the practice of transparent reporting on a set of forward-looking commitments that articulate the company’s firm belief that to prosper over the long term and create value for shareholders, it must also create value for society.

The report focuses on the 39 commitments that range across the Creating Shared Value (CSV) focus areas of nutrition, health and wellness; water and environmental sustainability; rural development, human rights, and our people, to provide the reader an overview of Nestlé’s material issues and activities in these areas.  Nestlé’s societal commitments, first published in 2012, were developed in consultation with external stakeholders and provide the reader with a clear sense of the strategic direction and standards of the company.  A more detailed version of the report, prepared ‘in accordance’ with the comprehensive option of the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) G4 guidelines and Food Processing Sector Supplement, is also available on the company’s CSV page.

Some key activities featured in the 2015 report include:

  • Delivery of 192 billion micronutrient-fortified servings of foods and beverages, worldwide;

  • Activation of 84 Nestlé Healthy Kids programmes around the world to promote healthy diets and lifestyles, including physical activity, for over 8 million children;

  • Work on a global scale to reduce public-health sensitive nutrients in Nestlé foods and beverages;

  • Work with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to provide access to water, sanitation and hygiene to communities around manufacturing sites and direct sourcing areas;

  • Achievement of zero waste in 105 (22%) of Nestlé factories worldwide.

  • Work on eliminating child labour from key categories such as cocoa, vanilla and hazelnuts, including sensitizing almost 48 000 farmers; and

  • Expansion of the Nestlé needs YOUth programme into a global initiative.
