This core purpose comes to life through our ongoing partnership with Medical Mutts Service Dogs, an Indianapolis-based non-profit dedicated to rescuing shelter dogs and training them to become life-saving service companions.
Together, we are strengthening the human-animal bond by giving rescue dogs a second chance and providing individuals with disabilities the support they need to thrive.
From Shelter to Service
Medical Mutts specializes in a unique approach: they don't just breed service dogs; they find them. By selecting dogs from shelters with the right temperament and potential, they transform "mutts" into highly skilled assistants for people living with invisible disabilities, including:
- Diabetes Alert: Detecting high or low blood sugar levels.
- Seizure Alert: Warning and assisting during medical episodes.
- PTSD Support: Providing comfort and grounding for veterans and survivors.
How Elanco Supports the Mission
Healthy dogs are better learners. Elanco’s collaboration with Medical Mutts focuses on ensuring these canine heroes receive the best possible care during their intensive training process.
Our work together includes:
- Sponsoring Indy’s Journey: Elanco sponsored rescue dog Indy’s training and placement with Medical Mutts. In return, Indy was the star at Elanco’s grand opening in October 2025.
- Shared Advocacy: By highlighting the incredible capabilities of rescue dogs, we are working together to change the perception of shelter animals and promote adoption.
- Community Impact: Both Elanco and Medical Mutts are proud to call Indianapolis home. Our partnership allows us to invest directly back into our local community while creating a global conversation about animal welfare.
Professional Pups: The "Pets at Work" Evaluation
Our collaboration also helps keep the Elanco culture thriving right here in our offices. Medical Mutts lends their expertise to our Pets at Work program by evaluating employee dogs for temperament and behavior. This assessment—mirroring the same standards they use for service dog selection—ensures that our office remains a safe, welcoming and productive environment for every team member.
