(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) November 14, 2011 - World leaders will meet in Rio de Janeiro to secure renewed political commitment for the global sustainability agenda and transition to the green economy. Participants will assess progress to date, identify gaps and address new and emerging challenges.

In its submission, ICMM highlights the importance of mining and metals to the green economy.   The conference will mark the ten-year anniversary of the Rio+10 Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, where the role of mining and metals in sustainable development was explicitly recognized for the first time.   In addition, ICMM contributed to the submission made by the Business Action for Sustainable Development 2012 (BASD), which outlines priorities for governments to maximize the contribution of business to Rio+20 and beyond.   The BASD is a temporary coalition of business organizations, including ICMM, working to co-ordinate the participation of the private sector in the Rio+20 Conference.   ICMM18721
