McKesson Honors Our Nations’ Veterans

Nov 11, 2010 9:00 AM ET

(3BLMedia/theCSRfeed) November 11, 2010 - Today, McKesson Corporation, the world’s largest healthcare services company, recognized Veterans Day by donating hundreds of care packages to overseas troops, supporting Operation Gratitude. McKesson is dedicated to helping protect the health of the United States and is proud to support active military and veterans.

The care packages, which included personal hygiene items, a McKesson reusable tote bag and a hand written post card from McKesson employees, were assembled by 200 McKesson leaders during an annual strategy meeting.

Veterans are represented throughout McKesson — from Distribution Centers to the executive management team and some of McKesson’s most-trusted suppliers and partners are veteran-owned businesses and organizations.

“As we proudly celebrate Veterans Day, we want to recognize our nation’s active military and veterans who put their lives on the line to protect our country. We are grateful for their dedication to defending our freedom,” said Kathleen Schafer, Vice President, Corporate Procurement. “At McKesson, our nation’s health is our number one priority.  So we salute the brave service men and women around the world who are defending the health and safety of all Americans.”

McKesson also supports active duty service men and women and veteran-owned businesses through various company wide volunteer efforts, including:

·       Sponsorship of San Francisco Fleet Week Service Members’ BBQ (October 2010) – McKesson’s sponsorship helped provide hot meals and live music for more than 4,000 active duty service men and women.

·       Diamond Sponsorship of 6th Annual National Veteran Small Business Expo in Las Vegas (July 2010) - McKesson took part in the National Veteran Small Business Expo (NVSBE).  The largest conference of its kind, the NVSBE brings together more than 3,200 attendees to share best practices of how veteran and service-disabled veteran businesses can interact with potential business partners.

·       Title Sponsor of Keeping the Promise (May 2010) - McKesson proudly sponsored Keeping the Promise in 2010. At Keeping the Promise, small veteran and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses get an opportunity to meet with potential business partners in both the public and private sector.

·       Project Homeless Connect (November 2010) - Through the San Francisco Veterans Affairs and Veterans Connect, McKesson’s Medical-Surgical business unit donated 300 hygiene packages to the Project Homeless Connect program. Packages included hygiene items such as shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap and a comb.
