Kids of all abilities should not be driven to school for the month of October.  Why?

  • THE CHALLENGE:  Today, less than 15% of children walk or ride their bicycles to school, down from nearly harlf of all children in 1969
  • THE CHALLENGE:  As much as 21% of morning traffic is generated by parents driving their children to school
  • THE CHALLENGE:  Combined emissions from numerous private vehicles can add up to the single greatest cause of pollution in many U.S. cities
#2.  “Wellness - Boredom Buster Box

Recycle old household board games and objects into creative new outlets for kids with congenital heart defects.  Why?  

  • THE CHALLENGE:  Nearly 1 out of every 100 children born has a congenital heart defect and spends a portion of their childhood in the hospital
  • THE CHALLENGE:  Heart defects are among the most common birth defects and are the leading cause of birth-related deaths
  • THE CHALLENGE:  Congenital heart-defect risk goes up with severity of maternal obesity
#3.  “Family - Preparedness Kit

Create an emergency kit, taking into consideration the needs of all family members, including pets

  • THE CHALLENGE:  Half of all Americans are unprepared for disasters of any kind, including natural hazards, terrorism, technological hazards, etc.
  • THE CHALLENGE:  Disasters disrupt hundreds of thousands of lives every year.  Each disaster has lasting effects, both to people and property
  • THE CHALLENGE:  Every citizen is part of a national emergency management system and needs to better understand their individual roles
