KeyBank Holds First Green Office Week for Employees

Apr 20, 2015 9:55 AM ET

CLEVELAND, April 20, 2015 /3BL Media/  –  April 20-24, KeyBank (NYSE: KEY) is holding Green Office Week, an employee-focused environmental sustainability celebration which conincides with both Earth Day (Wednesday, April 22) and Arbor Day (Friday, April 24). All events for the week highlight major initiatives that support Key’s sustainability efforts, including those that improve the environment, drive efficiencies, and promote health and wellness. Key’s Sustainability team partnered with business groups across the bank to develop the event.

“We have made important strides to create a sustainable company by increasing the efficiency of our operations and reducing our effect on the environment. Our employees are an important part of that journey, and this week we celebrate our success, get more people involved, and generate new ideas,” said Key’s Head of Sustainability Andrew Watterson.

The week begins by enabling employees in several major office locations to securely recycle their personal electronics through Key’s e-waste vendor. They will also be able to shred and recycle their confidential paper with the vendor used for the bank’s documents. In 2013, nearly 100 percent of bank e-waste was diverted from landfill and nearly 5,000 tons of paper were recycled.

Other events include: lunch events on the topic of eating healthy low-waste lunches and a chance to win a PlanetBox ™ lunch system; employee-initiated “Sustainability Walks” to assess and optimize recycling capabilities in Key’s buildings; and a presentation by Key’s Technology team to share how Key has reduced back office print by nearly 60 percent in the past five years. Green Office Week also launches a two-week long “idea generation sprint,” during which employees will identify areas of opportunity for the bank to become more sustainable in operations and product offerings, as well as in the communities Key affects. Employees participating in the idea sprint will have the chance win Key Possibilities gift cards.

Extending Green Office Week, Key will hold an April 28th celebration for its 17 Corporate Woods facility in Albany, New York, which has recently attained LEED Gold certification.
