Campaign: Net Zero Energy

Building operations account for 40% of energy use and carbon emissions worldwide. Through net zero energy, there is a growing opportunity to become a leader in resolving the climate crisis. The intent of net zero energy is to rely solely on renewable forms of energy and operate year-round in a safe, pollution-free manner.

As industry awareness of net zero energy has grown, the need for a simple certification process has become clear. The International Living Future Institute has substantially streamlined its Net Zero Energy Building certification to focus solely on energy performance. The benefits of NZE certification through ILFI include:

  • Save Time and Money: The streamlined NZE certification process and Documentation Requirements reduces the barrier to entry and will help you save time and cost.

  • Improved Experience: You'll enjoy the credibility provided by third party certification of real net zero energy performance from one of the most valued sources for sustainability. You'll also join a community of the people behind the world’s most efficient, carbon neutral buildings.

  • Offsite Exception: There is a new Energy Petal and Net Zero Energy Building Certification exception allowing offsite renewables in specific cases.

Additionally, efficient buildings that aren't necessarily net zero energy but make strides in reducing their energy use from average, or have associated renewables, often go unnoticed because they lack a system for credibly demonstrating their performance. Via the Reveal program, ILFI offers a third party tool to highlight this leadership in climate solutions.

The Reveal label communicates a building's energy efficiency and renewable production in one beautiful, easy-to-understand package. ILFI and Architecture 2030 have collaborated to expand Reveal to use the new Zero Tool database, and to denote projects which meet 2030 Challenge energy reduction levels. The label educates stakeholders about a building's performance, boosting its transparency and sustainability profile.
