Global Impact Announces Officers of the Board

Leadership Team Provides World-Class Experience

(3BL Media) Alexandria, VA - July 1, 2012 - Global Impact, whose mission is to assure help for the world's most vulnerable people, today announced its newly elected volunteer leadership team of the Board of Directors. Accepting three-year terms as Officers are Mr. Steve Polo (Chair), Ms. Nancy A. Kelly (Vice Chair) and Mr. James B. Kanuch (Secretary/Treasurer). 

“The leadership demonstrated by the newly elected officers of Global Impact will ensure the continuation of a 60-year reputation for wise and sound governance,” said Global Impact President Renée S. Acosta. “Individually and collectively Steve, Nancy and Jim bring a wealth of experience and wisdom to these roles to lead us in the accomplishment of three prosperous years helping the poorest among us.”

Steve Polo is a partner at OPX, a design consultancy that creates integrated operational environments for improved business results. Mr. Polo leads the strategic direction of the business. In 1996, Mr. Polo launched OPX’s global practice with engagements in Australia, China, Canada, Finland, France, Liberia, Mexico, South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago and the United Kingdom. Mr. Polo also leads the Law Firm Consulting Group of OPX.

Mr. Polo is a former adjunct professor at The Catholic University of America, and has been a guest lecturer at a number of colleges and universities, including Babson College, Howard University, Georgetown University and the University of Maryland’s Smith School.  He is also on the speakers’ bureau for Vistage, a CEO coaching and peer advisory organization, where he lectures on Design Thinking.

Mr. Polo is active in community and business organizations, including The Economic Club of Washington, D.C., and Founders Corps, a non-profit organization focused on entrepreneurship.

Nancy Kelly has been the Executive Director of Health Volunteers Overseas since it was founded in 1986. Prior to that time, she worked for the National Council for International Health (now known as the Global Health Council) and served as a maternal child health worker with the U.S. Peace Corps in the Republic of Korea. Ms. Kelly received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Asian Studies from the University of Virginia and a Master of Health Science degree in Maternal and Child Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Ms. Kelly also serves on the Boards of Directors of the U.S. section of Handicap International, the Friends of Korea and on the Open Board of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics. In 1998, Ms. Kelly was inducted into Delta Omega (Alpha Chapter) Honorary Public Health Society in recognition of her role in the founding of Health Volunteers Overseas.

Jim Kanuch, CPA, CFE, is a director within the Not-for-Profit Group at Watkins Meegan. He has more than 20 years of experience in auditing, accounting, tax and consulting engagements with expertise in various industries, specifically not-for-profit organizations and their for-profit subsidiaries. Prior to joining Watkins Meegan, Jim was responsible for overseeing all aspects of not-for-profit audit, tax and consulting work for a wide variety of clients in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area.

Mr. Kanuch graduated from Michigan State University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The

Greater Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
