LONDON, December 14, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Clarivate Plc (NYSE:CLVT), a global leader in providing trusted information and insights to accelerate the pace of innovation, announced today an exclusive partnership with Onyx IP Group, a US-based intellectual property (IP) law firm fully owned by James Bennin, a Black attorney. Clarivate has given Onyx IP Group complimentary access to FoundationIP® to support the newly-formed law firm with a single, powerful IP management software (IPMS) solution to manage IP across the whole lifecycle of innovation.

Just 1.94% of all equity partners in the U.S. are Black[1]; Onyx IP Group is making strides for an under-represented group in the field of law. According to the 2019 Vault/MCCA Law Firm Diversity Survey on overall law firm demographics, 82% of all lawyers and 89% of all partners in the U.S. are Caucasian, less than 3% are Hispanic and less than 4% are Asian.

Onyx IP Group, a law firm with combined private practice and in-house experience in the electrical, software and mechanical technology areas, offers its customers patent drafting and patent prosecution and counseling services, trademark searches, filing and prosecution services.

“At Clarivate, we believe that collaboration is key to fostering a sustainable world. We champion community partnerships and diverse, innovative contributions to our shared future,” said Gordon Samson, President, IP Group, Clarivate. “Inspired by this, Clarivate has partnered with Onyx IP Group as they advance diversity in the legal field.”

By providing Onyx IP Group with access to FoundationIP®, they will have a single, powerful IP management software (IPMS) solution that they can use to manage their clients’ IP portfolios. Integrated IP solutions within FoundationIP® help law firms maximize their efficiency, streamline collaboration with clients and colleagues, plus uncover actionable insights that unlock the full value of their clients’ assets.

“Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, helping companies innovate for a better future worldwide while operating to the highest social, environmental and ethics standards,” Samson added. “Collaboration is a key part of advancing this and we are proud to partner with Onyx IP Group as they work to increase the amount of diversity in the legal field.”

James Bennin, founder of Onyx IP Group said, “I am tremendously excited about the future of Onyx IP Group and with partnerships like the one we have with Clarivate, we are well prepared to provide exceptional work to clients while also furthering our goal of making a positive impact – particularly for those, like myself, in minority groups.”
