AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 8, 2013 /3BL Media /PRNewswire/ -- The National Safety Council (NSC) has recognized Chrysler Group's focus on improving safety in the workplace with more than 100 individual facility awards, an individual rising star award and two national corporate awards.  

As a result of the summation of all awards received, Chrysler Group was honored with the NSC's Culture of Safety Award for having earned at least 100 workplace safety achievements.

Additionally, the Company received the Corporate Occupational Excellence Achievement Award for having a lost-work-day incidence rate which is at least 50 percent lower than the average of other facilities within the Bureau of Labor Statistics grouping.

Dawn Breznai, the Environment, Health and Safety Lead at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant, was a recipient of the NSC Rising Stars of Safety Award. The award recognizes up-and-coming safety professionals younger than 40, who have a track record of demonstrating leadership, innovation and involvement in their organization's safety culture, while promoting continuous safety improvement in the workplace. The 37-year-old from Taylor, Mich., has been with Chrysler since 2002 and at Jefferson North since September 2012. She is a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit.

Awards were presented to Chrysler Group facilities, including manufacturing plants as well as parts distribution centers, in four categories:

Twenty-two (22) facilities received the Perfect Record Award, which honors locations that have achieved 12 consecutive months without incurring an occupational injury, illness or fatality involving days away from work.

The Significant Improvement Award was presented to 17 locations for having a minimum 20 percent reduction in injuries and illnesses that involve days away from work in accordance with OSHA recordkeeping requirements.

For completing a period of at least one million work hours without incurring an occupational injury involving days away from work, 21 facilities received the Million Work Hours Award.

Thirty-nine (39) locations received the Occupational Excellence Achievement Award, which in accordance with OSHA recordkeeping requirements, honors locations that have reported injuries and illnesses involving days away from work equal to or less than 50 percent of the Bureau of Labor Statistics rating for their 6-digit NAICS code during the calendar year.
